Part III: Detailed Information

General Description
Lufia is a fairly average girl. Her curly black hair often gets tangled, which causes her a bit of annoyance. She is paler than most students, since she spends a large portion of her time indoors studying. She tries very hard in regard to her schoolwork, and does possess a very Ravenclaw-like intellect for most subjects. She especially excells at history, but is abysmal at transfiguration. She cannot wait to drop the class after her OWLs. Her favorite class is History of Magic, and she is the only one of her fellow Slytherins who can manage, not only to stay awake in Binns' class, but to pay rapt attention. She can't wait to take it at the NEWT level.

Lufia has two very different desires at the moment. One is that she wants to have a pet or pets, but Professor Snape, her legal guardian, isn't thrilled with the idea of an animal at home. Lufia really wants a pair of mice, so she is spending the year wearing him down on this "no animals" stance. Her other goal is to learn to drive a muggle car. She has been fascinated with them ever since her first cab ride in her first year of school. The main reason she signed up for Muggle Studies was to learn about cars. She keeps this dream to herself, however, not even telling Snape or her best friend, Jeremiah Nott.

Personality:
Lufia displays the Slytherin trait of ambition externally in her determination to succeed in most of her classes. Her true ambition, however, is to prove that she can be successful without being a Ravenclaw. The anger and sorrow of being perceived by her family as a failure and disgrace drive her decisions, even though they severed ties with her four years ago.

A related result is that Lufia is very guarded about whom she lets get close to her. She is openly friendly to her house and year mates, but has only one close friend, Jeremiah Nott, who is also a 5th year Slytherin. She bonded with him early in their first year, when, even though she was a failure at flying and showed her great fear of it in front of the whole class, Jeremiah didn't laugh at or make fun of her. She tells Jeremiah almost everything, and trusts him more than anyone, except for Professor Snape.

Background:
The Metalliums are an old wizarding family. They pride themselves, not on purity of blood, but on purity of mind, as they call it. For the past 50 generations, every Metallium has been sorted into Ravenclaw at Hogwarts. A Metallium, per family tradition, can only marry another Ravenclaw alum. Caligula Metallium, the current family patriarch, was no different. He married Asyndeton Marker, a girl he'd known in passing from seeing her in the Ravenclaw common room. When their daughter, Lufia, was born, it was assumed that she would continue tradition.

Lufia enjoyed a quiet home life prior to attending Hogwarts. She was educated at home by her mother - no muggle primary school could teach a Metallium properly! She didn't see her father often; he worked long hours at the post office in London. Both parents took it as a given that Lufia would turn out Ravenclaw. Her room was done up in blue and bronze before she was out of a crib. As the years went on, Lufia began to grow tired of hearing, "When you're a proper Ravenclaw," from her parents, aunt, uncles, and the like, and being given only blue and bronze colored things for Christmas. She even began to dread getting her Hogwarts letter, even though she wanted it to hurry up and come, so her parents would stop talking about it. Once she was in Ravenclaw, she hoped her parents' fervor would calm down.

Lufia, however, was sorted into Slytherin upon arrival at Hogwarts. While she was delighted with this allotment, her parents saw it as a failure and disgrace to the family. They disowned her during her first year, threatening her stay at school. For reasons unknown to her, Professor Snape, her head of house, applied for and was granted custody of her. He is now her legal guardian until she comes of age.

Having her guardian as her teacher has proved somewhat awkward for Lufia. Neither she nor Professor Snape speak of their relationship at Hogwarts, although the staff are aware of it. Among her friends and acquaintences, Lufia still pretends she lives with her parents, which can be tricky, since one of her cousins, Miranda, also attends Hogwarts. Fortunately, Miranda chooses to ignore her most of the time. Part of Lufia desperately wants to stop pretending, but loyalty to Professor Snape keeps her quiet. He has done her a great favor, allowing her to live in his home at the holidays, and to even call him Severus outside of school, and she is determined to make sure he does not regret his decision.

Please explain how your character feels about the following characters.
Professor Dumbledore:
She is grateful to Dumbledore for not throwing her out of school her first year when her parents tried to have her removed. She doesn't see him very often, so regards him as a kind headmaster, who looks out for students in trouble.

Professor Snape:
Snape is her legal guardian; she lives with him during the holidays. She is very grateful to him for taking custody of her and allowing her to stay at Hogwarts. She respects him, and wants to succeed to prove his faith in her was justified. She is allowed to call him Severus outside of school. Inside of school, both pretend they have no relationship beyond teacher-student.

Professor Quirrell:
So far, the newest DADA teacher seems pretty good. She thinks he's a bit young, but is amused by the crushes the other girls seem to be developing on him. She did like Professor Fitzpatrick, and wishes she'd stayed another year before leaving to teach at university. But, Quirrell will do.

Professor Kettleburn:
She doesn't take Care of Magical Creatures, so her opinion on Kettleburn isn't well-formed. Her friends in his class seem to like him. She has no opinion on him one way or another.
