Submission Guidelines for Shared Hogwarts
By Amy Waller * July 2005 (heavily influenced by Kadanzer Weyr’s Submission Guidelines)

Stories, artwork and other such creative works are the main focus of Shared Hogwarts. Please email all submissions to sharedhogwarts@gmail.com

General Rules
  1. Please read the rules and world info.
This may seem obvious, but it makes the editing process go faster if you take the time to make sure your submission doesn’t contradict our established world cannon. It is also helpful to read other stories that take place around the same time as yours so your characters can react to events accordingly.
  2. Get permission from a persona’s owner before submitting work using said persona.
Approval is required for all personas used beyond your own. See "What requires approval" below.
  3. Please use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Any story submitted in RP format or using net-speak will not even be considered by the editing team. Stories should be written in third person, past tense, i.e.
Delenna mounted her broom not Delenna mounts her broom or I mount my broom or Please spell check your documents before submission.
  4. Rating of stories
Due to the age limit for membership, PG-13 rated stories are allowed and will be posted with no warning. If there is interest, we may look into opening an adults-only section for more mature works, but for now keep stories, art, etc at a PG-13 level. Fade to black my friends, fade to black.
  5. Please use the following format for stories:
    "talking out loud"
    ‘thinking to oneself’
    \sign language\
    **anything you want italicized**
    [anything you want underlined]
  6. All stories should be submitted as either .rtf (rich text format), plain text or Word documents.
  7. All stories must have a header block including author’s name, title of the story, date the story begins, what draft the story is, and a listing of all personas used in the story, including date of approval receipt where appropriate.
    For example
    • Beater’s Lament
    • 10/05/1989
    • by Amy Waller
    • rough draft #1 (7/23/05)
    • link to: Delenna Wolfram, Lufia Metallium (approval received 7/21/05), Madam Hooch (NPC), Nurse Pomfrey (NPC)
(It is helpful to list the draft number and the most recently submitted date so no one accidentally overwrites a current draft with an older one. All stories must have an In Character date for our club’s timeline. “link to” is a list of all the characters with a speaking or major action role in the story.)
  8. All artwork should be submitted as a .gif or .jpg files and be of a reasonable size.
Remember, the mods are on a dial up connection as are some of the members. Huge image files give our computers fits.
  9. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. All submissions must be your own work.

What use of other members personae requires approval

The following uses of another member’s persona require that member’s approval:
  1. If a character speaks any dialog (even a single line) or performs an action in the story
  2. If an action is attributed to a character off-screen
Example: Delenna had heard that Lufia’s parents had sent her a howler after Sorting would require approval from both the owners of Delenna and Lufia.
  3. If a character is mentioned in passing but does not speak or perform actions, approval is not required. For example Delenna passed Lufia in the hall would not require approval.
