Shared Hogwarts Point-Ranking System and How it Works.
By Amy Waller * July 2005 (thanks again to Kadanzer Weyr)
Shared Hogwarts has a ranking system for personae in which players earn "points" for being active in the creative life of the club. Points are used to determine your persona’s rank with their house and year as well as being totaled up over the houses to determine the winner of the House Cup (yes, we realize this may cause our Hogwarts to differ from JKR’s established canon, but we feel that allowing members to feel like they have an active hand in our alternate history is more important than cleaving strictly to canon).
So how can you earn points? Easy.
- Every page of story written for a particular character earns one point. One "page" is defined as one page in word of single spaced 12pt Times New Roman font with 1" margins all around. One page is approximately 450 words.
- Each page of ‘nonfiction’ (articles about Hogwarts and or the magical world) earns one point.
- Small pieces of artwork and/or sketches are worth 1/2 a point.
- Larger and more detailed pieces of artwork earn 1 point.
- There may be other miscellaneous ways of earning points, contact the moderators for current opportunities.
So now that you have points, what do you do with them?
Well, points determine how well your persona is doing in his/her classes. The more points your character has, the better you can claim he/she is doing in classes. You are always free to claim your character is doing worse than his/her points would indicate, but you may not claim a higher rank. A character with no points is assumed to be average in his or her classwork.
Points can also be accumulated across your characters and traded in for certain special ranks.
- 50 points: One of your characters can be named a prefect. This character must be at least 5th year. If you do not want a current character to be a prefect, you may create a new persona with this rank.
OR
One character may be named Quidditch Capitan for his/her House team. Character must be 6th or 7th year and currently playing Quidditch. Again, you may create a new character to fill this role.
- 100 points: One of your characters may be named Head Boy/Girl. This character must be 7th year (as before you can choose to create a new character for this position).
OR
Your character may become a special assistant to one of the professors, or become the special favorite of one of the professors (extra lessons, teaching certain lower-level classes, grading homework, glowing letters of recommendation for post-Hogwarts careers, etc).
- 150 points: You may claim a "special ability" for your character, such an animagus (registered only), or other ability determined by the player. Animagi must be 7th year.
